I’m doing the Diploma of Counselling Charles Darwin, can I join the ACA?

The Diploma of Counselling from Charles Darwin University is not eligible for ACA membership as it does not contain enough units to meet the criteria for a Diploma of Counseling CHC51015.

It is not the national Diploma of counselling CHC51015 and it only has 7 units of which a Diploma of Counselling CHC51015 has around 24 units and this diploma does not meet the criteria for the minimum level of Provisional membership.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this occasion. You would need to complete an Australian AQF approved qualification in counselling to become a registered counsellor with ACA. You would need a minimum of a diploma or graduate diploma of counselling which can be found on our website under careers and study or in the PDF Accredited Courses list attached in this email with links to all the courses available.

Please Note: A diploma or Graduate Diploma of Counselling can go as high as level 2 membership over time. If you wish to move to clinical levels 3 and 4 you will need to complete either an AQF Bachelor or Master of Counselling.

Please contact the course providers for more information.
