What do I need to renew my membership?
As per the Scope of Practice, Registered Counsellors must:
- Complete 25 Points of Ongoing Professional Development (OPD) per annum. The OPD Policy states: All practising members of ACA (Provisional through to Level 4) are required to complete 25 points of OPD per membership year.
- Completes 10 hours of Professional Supervision per annum. The Supervision Policy states: All practicing full members of the ACA including Supervisors, are required to undertake annual Supervision to maintain their registration. Except for Proficient (non-practising) and Venerable members, all membership levels incur supervision responsibilities.
These requirements have always been a part of membership with the ACA. They ensure Registered Counsellors are held to higher standards, and counsellors are improving their professional skills and knowledge - which is important for high-quality counselling services in our communities.
Top tips for easy renewals
- It is recommended you upload all OPD and Supervision evidence as-you-go. At minimum, please upload all information by the 15th of the month when your membership is due. This allows ACA time to accept, or reject, the evidence and confirm the points you are entitled to.
- Know the acceptable forms of OPD and Supervision evidence, and read your Supervision and OPD Policy.
- Call us in non-peak periods for faster service. This could be first thing Monday morning, or mid-afternoon. Our peak phone calls are in the last week of the month, or at lunchtime.
What happens if you are not ready by the membership expiry date?
Unfortunately ACA receives a lot of calls from members who are not ready to renew on their expiry date. They have not uploaded their required documentation. Renewals after the due date will incur an administration late fee of $50.
