Is Supervision mandatory?

Professional Supervision is a mandatory professional requirement for Registered Counsellors. This policy is consistent with other similar peak bodies such as the Australian Association of Social Workers and the Australian Psychological Society. The requirement for Supervision exists to support therapists who work in areas where they are regularly exposed to people in crisis.

Supervision is valued for the role it plays in enhancing professional practice, and provides a mechanism for Registered Counsellors and Psychotherapists to review caseloads, discuss concerns or ethical issues that may arise, and reflect on the impact of client work on the Counsellor in an effort to improve self-care.
